Boko Haram unrest: Cameroon air strikes on Nigerian militants

Senate Set to Adopt $78 Oil Benchmark for 2015 Fiscal Year

                                                      Senator Ahmed Makarfi The Senate is set to adopt the proposed $78 as the country’s oil price benchmark for 2015 fiscal year. The disclosure was made on Tuesday at the joint meeting on 2015-2017 Medium Term Expenditure Framework organised by Senate Joint Committees in Abuja. The Committees are Finance, National Planning, Economic Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Ahmed Makarfi, Chairman Senate Committee on Finance, who presided said the process would be concluded before a final decision was taken. Group Sues CBN Over Boko Haram

 A human rights group in Nigeria, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP has dragged the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to court over its failure to expose the alleged sponsors of the Islamist militant sect, Boko Haram. The suit was filed today, Monday, 14 October, 2014, at the Federal High Court Ikoyi in line with a Freedom of Information request by SERAP to the CBN governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele dated 15 September, 2014, according to P.M NEWS report. SERAP alleged that those financing Boko Haram insurgents are laundering money through the CBN to fund their activities. The originating summons with suit number FHC/L/CS/1547/2014 was filed on behalf of the organization by Adetokunbo Mumuni,  the report stated. Ebola: Kwara State Trains 2,300 teachers

The Kwara Government on Monday commenced a two-day training on Ebola preventive measures for some 2, 300 teachers across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state. Alhaji Lamidi Alabi , Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, stated this during a visit to some of the designated training centres. He said that teachers across the 17 centres were going through intensive training on Ebola preventive measures in schools. Alabi said that health teachers of primary schools and principals of junior and senior secondary schools were also being trained on the use of infra-red thermometers. According to him, Ebola Virus Disease preventive tools such as hand sanitisers, bowls, towels and customised polythene bags have already been distributed to the schools. Ebola: WHO begs Nigeria to avail expertise to affected West African countries

Nigeria has been admonished by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to provide expertise and build the capacity of other countries in the West African sub-region on how to contain the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in their countries. Executive Secretary of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Mohammed Ado announced this after the meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and the Director-General of the WHO, Dr. Margaret Chan, on the successful containment of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country and the effective halting of transmission of poliomyelitis. Cholera kills 80 Nigerian refugees in Cameroon

About 80 Nigerian refuges, who fled the Boko Haram dominated area in Borno, have died from Cholera in refugee camps in Cameroon. Although, 20 of them have been hospitalised at the camps, reports say, the refugees, who are scattered in Gawar, Zamay of Maroua camps in Cameroon, have been sent back to Nigeria following the disease. 40 of the dead were from Pulka, 30 from Ngoshe, Attagara, Agapaluwa and 10 were early migrants from the hills of Gwoza.

US To Allocate N81 Billion, 3000 Troops To Fight Ebola The US has announced plans to increase its contribution to the fight against Ebola in Africa The United States of America has upped the ante against the Ebola outbreak as it is sending 3000 troops to West Africa to contribute to efforts to halt the spread of the deadly disease. Ebola: Pres. Jonathan Condemns Discrimination Against Nigerians Abuja (NAN) – President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday condemned the stigmatization of Nigerians by some countries over recent cases of Ebola virus in the country. Jonathan made this known at a meeting with David Navarro, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on Ebola, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. This is contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati. The president, according to the statement, decried discriminatory actions by some countries against Nigeria, including the incident which forced Nigeria’s team to the Youth Olympics in China to abandon its participation.
